This tour can truly be called an odyssey as it offers the unique opportunity of experiencing local delicious foods, culture and beaches. Peru’s northern coast is a place of natural beauty and magnificent architectural sites. Picturesque fishing villages lie facing the sea and the beaches are excellent for wind surfing. The trip starts in the town of Chiclayo, 480 miles north of Lima. This was the center of one of Peru’s oldest pre-Inca cultures: the Moche (circa. ad.100). A short drive north is the town of Lambayeque, home of the Tumbas Reales and Brüning Museum. Just east of Chiclayo is the recently discovered archaeological find known as the “Lord of Sipán”. The journey continues south to Trujillo, the location of two of Peru’s great pre-Inca cultures: the Mochica and Chimu. Just outside of town is the site of Chan-Chan: the world’s largest adobe brick city. The complex “Huacas del Sol & Luna”, is located southeast of the city. In Trujillo feed your palette with excellent seafood like ceviche (fresh seafood marinated in lemon juice and onion). And, of course, no northern coast odyssey is complete without spending a relaxing afternoon on the beautiful Huanchaco Beach.
This is a full day tour enjoying the Andean Culture and history of the Incas. First take pleasure in watching a weaving demonstration in the lovely town of Chinchero. Then drive through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to visit the unique Moray circular agricultural terraces of the Incas. Afterwards, descend to the colonial town of Maras and continue driving on a dirt road to the serene white salt pans dating back to Inca Times.
