On this trek we will use llamas and horses. Experience the traditional cultural life of the Andean people living at high altitudes. Familiarize yourself with their farming skills and colorful weaving techniques. Take pleasure in dipping into the Lares hot springs at the end of the trek. Continue by train to Machu Picchu town to spend the night. The next day enjoy a professional guided walking tour of the wonderful Machu Picchu and savor every minute in the grandeur of this archeological site.

This unique trek features two of the finest examples of Inca architecture: Choquequirao and Machu Picchu. Choquequirao is larger than Machu Picchu and there is not much known. It is more reclusive and you will feel as you are the first to discover it. Due to its remote location, Choquequirao (“cradle of gold”) receives fewer visitors. Nestled on a prominent ridge overlooking the chasm created by the Apurímac River, this mythical city must have rivaled Machu Picchu in terms of beauty. It was explored briefly by Hiram Bingham in his search for Vilcabamba.  After a fantastic time continue to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu. This is a perfect alternative to the Inca Trail but a tough one. If, you are an experienced hiker in fit condition, then this is the trek for you.

We start off by acclimatizing to the altitude by doing the Cusco city tour and then visiting the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Then we start the extraordinary hike combining the Salkantay trek + Inca Trail, trekking through the high Andes is a remarkable way to experience both worlds at once. Get a taste of the Sacred Apu Salkantay and then connect to the infamous Inca Trail.  Revel in the scenery changes and ruins in route to the long awaited eye-opening magical Machu Picchu. Stroll through the complex known to the local people but hidden from the world until it was rediscovered in the early 20th century.

Horses are used for the Salcantay trek portion and human porters for the Inca Trail.

Please, consider purchasing the Inca Trail permits at least 6 months in advance because they sell out quickly by the official system.
