Lares Trek & Machu Picchu 4D/3N

Hike the exciting Lares Trek that will take you through traditional Andean weaving communities, pristine lakes and breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains. On this trek we will use horses. Experience the traditional cultural life of the Andean people living at high altitudes. Familiarize yourself with their farming skills and colorful weaving techniques. Enjoy the Lares hot spring before the start of the trek. Continue to Machu Picchu town to spend the night. The next day enjoy a professional guided walking tour of the wonderful Machu Picchu and savor every minute in the grandeur of this archeological site.

  • Itinerary:
    Day 1: Cusco – Lares - Huacawasi

    Early morning pick up from your hotel in Cusco and drive to Calca in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Continue through Lares (3,230mt/10,595ft) and the Cordillera Urubamba. We will pass the Amparaes Pass (4,400mt/14,436ft) and then drive down to the town of Lares to soak in the thermal baths. Enjoy lunch before starting the hike. Afterwards, we meet our arrieros (handlers) with horses to start our trek.  We will hike to the Huacawasi Village (3,600mt/11,811ft) to spend the night.

    Day 2: Huacawasi – Ipsaycocha lake- Patacancha

    Today we will walk up to the Ipsayccasa Pass (4,250mt/13,940ft) and catch spectacular views of the lovely landscape. Thereafter, we hike down to the Ipsaycocha Lake (4,332mt/14,208ft) to relax and eat lunch. Afterwards, continue descending to our next campsite Patacancha (3,831mt/12,565ft), where we will have time to mingle with the locals, who maintain their ancient culture and still wear colorful clothing.

    Day 3: Patacancha - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu Town)

    This morning we will depart from the village of Patacancha and visit a local´s home to parttake in a cultural exchange. Then hike down passing the village of Huilloc and the Pumamarca Ruins. Most of the porters for the Inca Trail come from these andean villages. We will eat lunch before arriving to the village of Ollantaytambo. In Ollantaytambo (2,792mt/9,160ft) enjoy a walk around town before boarding the train to Machu Picchu Town (2,040mt/6,690ft) to spend the night in a comfortable hostel.

    Day 4 :Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu Town) - Machu Picchu- Cusco

    You will be met by your guide in your hotel early in the morning to take the first bus for a 25 minute ride up to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu. Take pleasure in a professional guided walking tour of the citadel visiting the extraordinary Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Three Windows and much more.  Afterwards, you will have time on your own to further explore the ruins. Then return by bus to Machu Picchu town for lunch (on your own) before boarding the train to Poroy. You will be met at the train station by our staff and private transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

    Optional: (extra cost) Climb Huayna Picchu to catch terrific vistas of the Machu Picchu ruins and the valley below.

    • Any unexpected situations occurred during the journey and which are beyond our control, including changes in scheduling trains or flights, delays, strikes, cancellations, missed connections, etc., shall be covered by the passenger as a whole. If you cannot continue the trek or walk due to physical or health reasons and you would require emergency evacuation then all charges incurred such as transportation, hotel, ambulance, doctors, medication, hospitalization, etc.. will be at passenger's expense. You will be accompanied by our staff member back to Urubamba in the Sacred Valley or Cusco. This is why we recommend purchasing travel and health insurance. This is money well invested! Trekperu will help you obtain all the necessary documents for you to file a claim with your insurance company.
    • Personal items like individual gear, room services, sleeping bag, medicines, laundry, telephone calls, airline excess luggage charges, visa fees, vaccinations, etc.
